Historic Record: for St Valentine’s 2022 Avianca Cargo transported more than 16 thousand Tons, 15% more than in 2021

With more than 300 flights and up to 100 weekly frequencies, Avianca Cargo managed to transport more than 16 thousand tons mainly to the United States during St. Valentine’s 2022 season. This year, the company exceeded in 15% the tons transported compared to the previous year, breaking the record for the second consecutive year as the biggest flower transport operation.

“Avianca Cargo has been supporting the flower growers in Colombia and Ecuador for more than 48 years transporting their flowers. For 2022, we created a robust strategy to strengthen our operation to provide high-quality service. We reassigned the capacity of our freighters to increase the offer to the market and activated passenger aircraft dedicated to flower shipments. It has been the result of the great job done by our team of experts, the articulation with our clients and the different industry entities, that we managed to close the best season of our history,” confirmed Gabriel Oliva, Avianca Cargo CEO

With the flower exportation to destinations such as Miami, Los Angeles, and all over the United States, the airline transported different types of flowers. Bogota led the transport of roses and carnations while from Medellin, pompons, hydrangeas, and chrysanthemums predominated. On its part, Quito mobilized mainly roses and gypsos.

According to data from ProColombia, this market grows each season. For 2021, the export and shipment of flowers reached 1,740 million US dollars increasing in 22% compared with 2020. On other hand, Asocolflores stated that these special dates represent nearly 15% of the industry’s exports.

This way, Colombia and Ecuador continue to position themselves as one of the major producers and exporters of flowers worldwide, St Valentine’s as one of the most relevant dates for the industry and Avianca Cargo as the most relevant operator in the Colombians market for this season.
