British Airways is set to mark a milestone aircraft delivery on Friday (September 29), as it welcomes the 25th Dreamliner into its fleet. The Boeing 787-8 aircraft will be making its maiden voyage to the airline’s Heathrow home with the flight number BA8625. It will depart Boeing’s Seattle factory on Thursday September 28 at 6.05pm local time and will land at Heathrow at 11.15am local time the following day. The Port Authority announced today that Acting Chief Security Officer John Bilich – a former NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Operations and chief investigator in the Manhattan and Brooklyn District Attorney’s Offices – has been named the agency’s permanent Chief Security Officer. Mr. Bilich, who was named Acting Chief Security Officer in December 2016, joined the Port Authority in March 2015 as First Deputy Chief Security Officer after serving as the chief investigator at the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office. Two dozen Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers who live and work in New York City volunteered to serve on a Transportation Security Support Team to deploy to Houston to assist in the reopening of George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston (IAH) in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. They were one of several teams from airports across the country who came to aid in the airport’s post-hurricane recovery. The opening of the second window comes as JetBlue’s first set of six candidates complete the airline-focused training program and continue to earn their FAA-mandated 1,500 hours of flight time. Aviation Partners Boeing (APB) today announced that Hainan Airlines has committed to install Split Scimitar Winglets on 36 of its fleet of Boeing Next-Generation 737-800 aircraft. Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Inc. announced the ACMI placement of a 747-400 freighter with DHL Global Forwarding, the world’s largest airfreight forwarding company and a division of the Deutsche Post DHL Group. The 747-400F will be operated by Atlas Air, Inc. and will fly on behalf of DHL Global Forwarding through an aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance agreement. In the wake of Hurricane Irma’s destructive path through the Caribbean, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is supporting storm recovery efforts in the U.S. Virgin Islands with a fully-staffed mobile air traffic control tower at Cyril E. King International Airport in St. Thomas. The tower was fully operational at 9:40 a.m. this morning and is now supporting relief flights by the U.S. military, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, general aviation and limited commercial flights. In honor of Air Canada’s 80th anniversary, Air Canada’s Lockheed 10A vintage aircraft is taking to the skies across Canada. After taking off this morning from Vancouver, BC, the L-10A will be making overnight stops as well as fuel stops at airports across Canada, and will be on public display at the Royal Aviation Museum in Winnipeg on September 13 and 14. As part of the tour, the vintage 10-seat aircraft will overnight in Edmonton, Saskatoon, Regina, Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Halifax.
