Terminal 4 at John F. Kennedy International Airport – one of the world’s most active air terminals – today announced a partnership with CrowdVision, an industry-leading passenger measurement and analytics solution, to optimize operations, layouts, and processes throughout the terminal.

The technology, set to be largely deployed by the end of 2018, will continue to improve the passenger experience for the more than 21 million passengers who pass through Terminal 4 each year. It will be installed at three different locations throughout Terminal 4: curbside, so that action can be taken to manage passenger and vehicles arrival congestion; in the Departures Area, to ensure the check-in desks of airlines and other partners are staffed to provide service to passengers; and at security checkpoints, to measure and expedite wait times in the general and TSA Pre-check lines and during the ticket checking and security screening processes.

The technology is a combination of the CrowdVision measurement solution and Copenhagen Optimization’s Better Airport modeling product, which work in tandem to provide live data, operational insights and forecasting, and planning tools which allow decision-makers to optimize, analyze, and improve operations for superior passenger management. Using artificial intelligence-enabled computer vision technology to measure real-time passenger activity, CrowdVision collects and provides data to Better Airport, which is then used to produce the most accurate forecasts and plans for allocating resources and optimizing operations. Once Better Airport’s insights are implemented by Terminal 4’s staff, retail partners and security personnel, CrowdVision is essential in evaluating the software’s modeling performance. CrowdVision measures whether the forecasts are reflected in passenger activity, if resource planning has been properly executed, and what factors contribute to potential discrepancies between predicted and actual passenger activity and operational needs.

“We are proud to partner with CrowdVision to enhance the passenger experience and remain at the forefront of the industry by employing the latest technology and innovation,” said Roel Huinink, President and CEO of JFKIAT, the company which operates Terminal 4. “With passenger counts continuing to soar, the capabilities provided by the CrowdVision solution will allow us to accommodate the rising volume in the most efficient and proactive way possible.”

CrowdVision’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Fiona Strens, said “Terminal 4 is a very exciting new customer for CrowdVision. The vision and quality of its leadership team are exceptional and we look forward to collaborating to optimize the terminal for passenger experience, operational efficiency and shareholder value. We’re also committed to working with excellent partners, including Copenhagen Optimization with their Better Airport products, to ensure that CrowdVision data and insights translate into better forecasts, plans and practical outcomes. This relationship will be all about collaboration and innovation to deliver serious and sustainable impact.”

One of the most powerful passenger measurement and analytics solutions currently available to airport operators, CrowdVision is deployed in airports throughout the world to measure the efficiency of passenger servicing in real-time with the aim of removing chokepoints, keeping people moving, enhancing passenger experience and creating an optimized terminal for all stakeholders.
