Metropolitan Airport News Charitable Giving Program

The Metropolitan Airport News Charitable Giving Program supports New York-based non-profit organizations working to benefit the aviation industry and improve the quality of life for those in need at and around the New York area airports.

The Aviation High School Education Foundation is an organization that is recognized as a valuable resource by the Aviation High School (AHS) community. A dedicated panel of the Board of Directors will partner effectively with alumni services [and AHS faculty] to offer programs that foster school tradition and champion a lifelong connection and involvement with AHS. Our Guiding Principles are to build relationships and a sense of camaraderie among students and AHS alumni by engaging them through the perpetuation of school pride and tradition. To recruit alumni to actively promote Aviation High School and showcase the AHSEF as an essential and vibrant partner of the school.

Aviation High School New York Metropolitan Airport NewsAviation Career & Technical Education High School

Aviation High School, official name Aviation Career & Technical Education High School, is a public high school owned and operated by the New York City Department of Education. Formerly known as the Manhattan School of Aviation Trades (SAT), Aviation High School has operated since 1936. The school is located in the Long Island City neighborhood of the New York City borough of Queens. The school accepts students from all five boroughs according to the NYC screened school process. The main focus of the school is to train Federal Aviation Administration licensed Airframe and Powerplant technicians who are well-grounded in rigorous academic coursework, enabling graduates to go directly to work in the aviation maintenance industry, enroll in colleges, universities or the military. The mission of Aviation High School is to provide students with a high-quality rigorous academic and technical program that will prepare them to meet the educational challenges of the 21st century and a career in aerospace.

Metropolitan Airport News has raised $6,300 for the Aviation High School Annex 5th Year Program through our annual December Charitable Giving Campaign.

Patient Airlift Services PALS 2 Metropolitan Airport NewsPatient Airlift Services (PALS)

Patient AirLift Services is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that arranges free air transportation for individuals requiring medical diagnosis, treatment or follow-up who cannot afford or are unable to fly commercially. PALS also arranges volunteer flights for family members of patients as compassionate missions, to ensure patients have support when they are away from home for long periods. PALS is proud to assist military personnel and their families with free flights to aid in the recovery and rehabilitation processes for our wounded veterans. PALS has a history of supporting humanitarian efforts in the event of natural or man-made disasters.

The USO provides programs, entertainment and services at more than 200 USO locations worldwide, including 6 centers in the tri-state area. Whether you are traveling through a local airport, visiting the area for the first time, or stationed here and looking to enjoy the region’s many unique attractions and entertainment options, knowledgeable USO volunteers can help make your visit memorable. In 2016, USO centers were visited more than 7 million times by service members and their families. USO centers provide a warm and comforting place where service members can connect to loved ones via Internet or phone, play a video game, catch a movie, have a snack or just put their feet up and relax.
